Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
The FSCS is the UK's compensation scheme that protects eligible customers if an authorised financial firm fails.
Also known as: FSCS
It covers deposits in banks, building societies and credit unions, and some investments, insurance and pensions, up to limits set by the regulator. It does not protect against investment losses caused by market falls.
Check the current limits on the FSCS website, and check that firms are authorised on the FCA Register.
Check the policy documents and the key facts before you buy, and compare the cover as well as the price.
