Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)
The Financial Ombudsman Service is a free, independent service that resolves complaints between consumers and financial firms.
Also known as: FOS, Financial Ombudsman, ombudsman
You usually must complain to the firm first. If you are unhappy with the final response, or eight weeks have passed, you can take your case to the FOS, normally within six months of the final response.
It can order a firm to put things right, including paying compensation. It decides what is fair and reasonable in the circumstances.
Check the policy documents and the key facts before you buy, and compare the cover as well as the price.
