Contents insurance
Contents insurance covers your belongings, such as furniture, clothes and electronics, if they are stolen or damaged.
Also known as: contents cover
Estimate the cost of replacing everything new, and check limits for single valuable items. Cover for belongings outside the home and accidental damage is often an optional extra.
Renters usually need contents cover only, because the landlord insures the building.
Keep receipts, photos or serial numbers for expensive items, because they make a claim much easier to prove if something is lost.
Check the policy documents and the key facts before you buy, and compare the cover as well as the price.
