Conveyancing

Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring ownership of a property from the seller to the buyer.

Also known as: conveyancer, conveyancing solicitor

A solicitor or licensed conveyancer checks the title, carries out searches, deals with the contract and the mortgage paperwork, and arranges the transfer of money on completion.

Get written quotes that show the fee, VAT and disbursements, which are costs passed on, such as search and Land Registry fees.

Choosing a conveyancer with good reviews and clear communication can make a stressful process far smoother.

An authorised mortgage adviser can explain how this applies to your circumstances, and MoneyHelper offers free guidance. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
